NEW DELHI: Actors Arjun Rampal, Victor Bannerjee, Hema Malini and filmmakers Subhash Ghai and Madhur Bhandarkar will be among those driving the Bharatiya Chitra Sadhna film festival that members of the RSS are organising in New Delhi starting next week.
The three-day festival that starts from February 19 will also see the participation of ministers Smriti Irani and Babul Supriyo at Siri Fort and is aimed at showcasing “Bharatayeeta” (Indian ethos) in Indian films, said Alok Kumar , an RSS member and advocate, who is curating the festival.
While a film on freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak has been chosen as the inaugural movie, the festival will showcase 153 films made by young filmmakers on topics such as Indian cultural values, environments, Indian family system, women and Indian folk arts among others. Film screen wriet Vijayendra Prasad and actor Manoj Tiwari will conduct master classes on script writing and acting respectively.
In the last three years, an increasing number of TV and film personalities from Ajay Devgn to Akshay Kumar have been meeting senior members of the RSS. Sangh members feel it is a sign of increasing acceptability of the organisation that was at loggerheads with students agitators in campuses such as JNU till last year.
“The aim of the festival is to spread Indian cultural values as well as to educate people about the need to present the Indian thought in films,” Alok Kumar said.
